On September 20, members of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban united with volunteers across Misamis Oriental to take part in the annual World Coastal Cleanup Day, a global initiative dedicated to protecting our oceans and preserving marine ecosystems.
A total of 14 Rotarians, together with 30 officers from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 of the Philippine National Police, and volunteers from the Municipality of Villanueva, worked hand in hand to clear coastal areas of waste and debris. Their collective effort highlights how community partnerships can make a lasting impact on environmental conservation.
Coastal cleanup goes beyond simply collecting trash. It is a meaningful act of safeguarding marine life, maintaining clean and safe waterways, and ensuring that future generations inherit coastlines that are healthy and thriving. Every discarded item removed from the shoreline becomes a step toward cleaner seas and more resilient communities.
Leadership and Community Support
The initiative was successfully led by Project Chair PP Christy Jugador, Community Service Director PP Bing, and the dedicated members of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban. Their leadership ensured the smooth execution of the cleanup and encouraged strong participation from volunteers and partner organizations.
Special appreciation is extended to:
- Rtn. Nene Juaneza, for coordinating with the police volunteers and providing the coastal cleanup shirts.
- Rtn. Pam, for supplying gloves that kept volunteers safe as they handled debris.
- PP Bing Aton, for coordinating additional logistical support from the Municipality of Villanueva.
Following the cleanup, Gov. Juliette Uy graciously hosted the Rotarians and volunteers, offering appreciation for their dedication and service.
