Project: Tutorial Towards Love for Reading

“Reading maketh a man” This familiar quote inspired the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban (RCCEU) with our incumbent President Liluisa Dacudao with the support of the Local Government Unit of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental headed by its very energetic Municipal Mayor Hon. Jennie Rosalie Uy Mendez who is also an active member of RCCEU and the cooperation of Department of Education, Misamis Oriental Schools Division through its Schools Division Superintendent, Edilberto Oplenario launched this project on February 29, 2024. Due to some technical issues, the Memorandum of Agreement was signed a little later hence finally the first session of the Tutorial Lessons in Reading started on April 19, 2024.
One unique feature of this project is that the tutorial lesson is conducted in the Reading Center provided by the LGU just beside the municipal public library.
The RCCEU provides the Reading Teacher who conducts the tutorial on Fridays as the public school has declared Friday as CATCH UP Day.
Every session has ten grade six pupils to be taught fluency in Reading English with good comprehension. Two sessions are held in the morning and two sessions in the afternoon. Hence, a total of forty Grade School learners will be benefitted by this project to make them better equipped in Reading as a tool for effective learning in the secondary level.
In order that the learners will look forward to the next session of the reading lesson, the RCCEU provides snacks for said learners after every session.
The LGU of Villanueva provides the transportation of the learners from their school, San Martin Integrated School to the Reading Center and back.
With the hope and vision that this project will have a positive effect to the beneficiaries, it will also support the theory that some learners learn reading better if done in some other venues other than the classroom.
