HISTORY OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF CAGAYAN DE ORO EAST URBAN

The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban was chartered on October 17, 1990, as the first all-women Rotary Club in the district (District 3870), under the visionary leadership of Charter President Elizabeth “Ybeth” Yu. Officially presented to the district on February 2, 1991, the club began with 28 pioneering members from diverse professional backgrounds.
Guided and mentored by respected Rotarians including Governors Benong Pivaldos, Plutarco Velez, Dante Sarraga, and Salvador Caragos, the club established a strong foundation rooted in Rotary’s motto “Service above Self.” The club has thrived, excelling in Rotary’s four avenues of service, hosting Rotary Exchange students and Group Study Exchange (GSE) teams, and actively participating in local and international events.
Notably, the club proudly organized district conferences and training seminars, even performing uniquely at a TRI District Conference in Cebu City in 1997. In recognition of its unwavering commitment and dedication, the club has earned numerous awards and citations.
In 1998-1999, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro East Urban proudly sponsored and chartered a daughter club, Rotary Club of Kalayaan, under the presidency of PP Bebotte Chu.
Today, the club continues to uphold its tradition of excellence, service, and commitment, celebrating more than 30 years of meaningful impact, strong fellowship, and community dedication. Within the club, strong leadership and mentoring are provided by accomplished businesswomen and professionals, fostering personal and professional growth among members. The club remains one of only two all-female Rotary Clubs in the Philippines, proudly upholding its distinctive identity and legacy.
